The Phantom crypto-coshel received a collective lawsuit in the Southern District of New York, which is accused of a platform of security shortcomings that allegedly led to an abduction of more than $ 500,000 in Wiener Doge tokens.
The plaintiffs, including the founder of the Law Firm Murphy’s Law Thomas Liam Murphy and another 13 people, demand $ 3.1 million compensation, claiming that Phantom kept the private keys of users in the unenfical memory of the browser, which made them available for malicious software.
According to the statement, the attacker hacked the computer of the developer Murphy, learned a private key from the RAM of the browser and gained full access to the three Phantom-wallets, despite the presence of multifactorial authentication.
In addition, the hacker used the integrated SWAPPER function to convert Wyener tokens by only $ 37,537 in SOL, actually destroying the market value of the entire project, which reached $ 3.1 million, according to the GECKOTERMINAL.
The lawsuit also informs that Phantom did not have systems for checking the speed of transactions, geolocation anomalies or limits of withdrawal of funds, unlike centralized platforms like Coinbase.
Murphy also noted that he quickly informed Phantom about the theft, but the company is allegedly replied that it works as a “non -codium wallet”, which meant that Murphy was “full responsibility” for the loss of his cryptocurrencies.
The document also refers to Phantom’s partnership with the OKX exchange in 2024. The latter pleaded guilty to counteract money laundering (AML) in the amount of $ 5 billion. According to the plaintiffs, insufficient informing of users about this integration is a deceptive practice.
