User paid $89,000 in fees for transferring 0.87 ETH

On August 11, 2024, an unknown person sent 0.87 ETH to another address. The fee for this transaction was 34.6 ETH, which was valued at $88,976 at the time.

It should be noted that on August 11, Ethereum network fees dropped to 1 Gwei, the lowest since January 2020. However, the fee for this transaction was more than 1.64 million Gwei.

At the time of writing, the wallet from which the funds were sent does not hold any assets. On the night of August 12, it still held more than $180,000, according to Debank.

This is not the first time that users have paid huge fees to transfer cryptocurrency. On February 13, 2024, an unknown Ethereum owner sent 10 ETH to another address. The fee for this transaction was 42.88 ETH, which was valued at $113,497 at the time.

Similar stories have happened with Bitcoin transfers. In September 2023, an unknown person paid 19.8 BTC (about $510,000 at the time) for a transfer of 0.074 BTC.
