A video of the San Diego Zoo in the United States shows the reaction of African elephants to the earthquake on Monday (14) in southern California.
Zoo staff said elephants had a behavior known as a “warning circle”, which aims to protect young people – and all herd – from threats.
The elephant group can be seen instinctively circulating around an elephant puppy to protect it. They resumed their normal behavior after a few minutes, even if they were close to each other.

No damage has been reported at the San Diego zoo – although the zoo air tram is temporarily closed.
Monday’s earthquake was recorded with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1, the US Geological Service (USGS) reported.
