The Commercial War between the United States and China is, in fact, a conflict for global hegemony, according to the assessment of the general coordinator of the International Strategy Analysis Group on Defense, Security and Intelligence at the University of São Paulo (DSI-USP), Alberto Pfeifer .
According to Pfeifer, Donald Trump’s actions, often described as a “roller coaster of tariffs”, reveal a deeper strategy than simply commercial disputes.
The expert argues that the real goal of the United States is to contain China’s advance in the international scene. “It’s not a trade war, it has another dimension, it’s a hegemonic conflict, a strategic conflict,” he says.
“But it is very certain what Trump intends to do. He wants to contain China. It’s as simple as that. What is not simple to understand is how to do, the tactic he will deliver. He [Trump] Comes with attempt and error. He was ESShis optionThis is how he learned to negotiate, to act in the business world. First he kicks the ‘tent pole’destroys everything, mess everything, then put the shards and see what gives to Do it, ”he adds.
Despite the apparent instability caused by these actions, Pfeifer points out that this strategy is not exclusive to Trump or the Republican Party, but reflects a bipartisan consensus in the United States.
“Deep down, what he [Trump] he wantsnot just the Trump, but what the Republican Party wants, what the party Democrat Want, what the United States wantsfinally, there are several governments, is to contain the Chinese advancepplowing with the possibility of China to hegemonically dispute the control of international relations with the andUnited, ”he explains.
Divergent Objectives: USA vs. China
While the United States seeks to maintain its dominant position in international relations, China, according to the analyst, does not necessarily aim for a global hegemony. The focus of the Chinese government would be more focused on maintaining internal cohesion and the safety of its population, ensuring access to essential resources.
“China does not want to be hegemonic in the world, it wants to maintain its internal cohesion and the safety of its population with access to the necessary goods, food, energy, essential minerals to maintain social peace,” concludes the expert, highlighting China’s internal complexity as a “amalgam of cultures, nationalities, religions.”
