US works to recover wreckage of flying objects that were shot down

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Monday (13) that authorities are continuing work to recover the wreckage of three unidentified objects shot down in US airspace last weekend.

“We’ll confirm what they are once we collect the wreckage,” Austin said. “But [ainda] we have not recovered any debris from the three most recent shootings.”

The US military shot down three unidentified objects over the weekend, two in the US and one in Canadian airspace.

Austin also said on Monday that recovery teams had collected “a fair amount of debris” from a Chinese surveillance balloon that was shot down on Feb. 4, but that weather had affected the search for the wreckage of an object in Alaska.

Near Lake Huron, US Northern Command, the US Coast Guard and the FBI are “initiating operations to locate debris in close partnership with Canadians”.

Austin emphasized that the three objects shot down over the weekend “are very different” from what the US saw cross the country last week.

“I want to be clear that the three objects dropped this weekend are very different than what we were talking about last week,” Austin said. “We knew exactly what it was – a surveillance balloon from China.”
