U.S. citizens filing for unemployment insurance benefits increased by 215,000 in the week ending February 24, the U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) reported Thursday. The figure was lower than initial estimates of 210,000 and followed an increase of 202,000 the previous week.
Other details from the release revealed that the advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.3% (from 1.2%) and the 4-week moving average stood at 212.50K, a decrease of 3,000K from the revised average from the previous week.
Additionally, continuing claims increased by 45,000 to 1.905 million in the week ending February 17.
