US, UK and Canada accuse Russia of ‘plan’ to influence Moldovan elections

In a joint statement, the US, Britain and Canada say they have “accused” Russia of organizing a plan to influence the outcome of the presidential elections in Moldova, which will be held in October. The announcement was made public by the State Department. The statement said Russia was seeking to exacerbate social tensions and fuel negative perceptions of the West and the incumbent team of pro-Western Moldovan President Maya Sandu, using disinformation and online propaganda. “We are taking this initiative to warn our democratic partners and allies that Russian actors are organizing a plan to influence the results of Moldova’s presidential elections in the fall of 2024,” the statement said.
