US Treasury Secretary: There must be a G20 statement condemning Russia’s war

The Minister of Finance of USAJanet Yellen, told Reuters that a strong statement condemning Russia’s war in Ukraine was “absolutely necessary” for the communique of the G20 meeting of finance ministers and central bankers concluding in India.

Ms. Yellen said that not including a condemnation of the war in the communique would be a retreat from her leaders’ statement G20 last November in Bali, Indonesia.

Asked about the possibility of no communique from the G20 if there is no such statement, Yellen said negotiations are continuing.

“I think there should be a statement in the communique condemning Russia’s war. We’ve had it in the past, in Bali, and it’s something I think is absolutely necessary.”Yellen said.

“And I think the G7 is definitely on board with that, so it’s something I would expect and I think it’s necessary and right.”.
