US stocks close higher, with limited breath on a modest agenda day

New York stock markets closed with gains this Wednesday (24), but on a contained day, on a modest agenda day. Investors were waiting for the Jackson Hole Symposium starting on Thursday, when the Federal Reserve (Fed, the US central bank) can give more details about its next steps in monetary policy. This Wednesday, in a positive session for oil, the energy sector led the gains.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.18% to 32,969.23 points, the S&P 500 rose 0.29% to 4,140.77 points and the Nasdaq rose 0.41% to 12,431.53 points.

On the indicator agenda, US durable goods orders were stable in July compared to June, when analysts were projecting a rise of 1%. After the data, stock futures indices lost some steam, but still showed gains.

At the opening of the stock exchanges, the negative sign dominated, but with the indices oscillating close to stability. Later there were gains, but also contained.

In addition to the energy sector, financial and real estate securities were among the biggest gains. Among some major stocks, Meta rose 1.33%, Apple gained 0.18% and Netflix, 2.25%. Microsoft fell 0.24%, Intel dropped 0.27% and IBM dropped 1.12%.

Among oil companies, Chevron rose 0.74%, ExxonMobil gained 0.59% and Chesapeake Energy, 3.37%. Boeing closed up 2.21% and Tesla up 0.2%, while Citigroup was up 0.12% and JPMorgan up 0.24%.
