The US is expected to announce another military aid package for Ukraine, totaling approximately $500 million, a US official told CNN.
The aid, expected to be announced on Tuesday, will include additional Bradley and Stryker fighting vehicles, the official said, and will be provided to Ukraine through the Presidential Withdrawal Authority. Ukraine lost several armored vehicles in the early days of its counter-offensive, which US officials believe Ukrainian forces launched earlier this month.
The package arrives as US officials continue to assess the impact Wagner’s rebellion inside Russia will have on Russia’s war in Ukraine. US and Western officials told CNN last week that the Ukrainian counteroffensive has not lived up to expectations, with Russian defense lines proving to be well fortified. Russian forces have also been successful in blocking Ukrainian armor with missile and mine attacks and have been deploying airpower more effectively.
The latest package, announced earlier this month, was valued at around $325 million and included new air defense systems and rockets for Ukraine.
The US has provided more than $39 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, including $22 billion in presidential looting.
