The Senate voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday in favor of a bill that would require TikTok to cut ties with its parent company, Chinese company ByteDance, and with China more broadly in order to avoid being banned in the US. US President Joe Biden said he would sign the bill, which was passed by the House of Representatives on Saturday and stems from concerns that China could access or monitor the data of Americans who use TikTok. “For years we have allowed the Chinese Communist Party to control one of the most popular apps in the US, and that has been dangerously short-sighted,” said Sen.
