US Marshals Service Chose BitGo to Store Confiscated Cryptocurrencies

The United States Federal Marshal Service (USMS) has chosen a service that will store confiscated digital assets – it became the custodian service BitGo.

According to the contract, BitGo will receive $ 4.5 million for its services, while the duration of the contract is not specified. But it is known that in addition to storing confiscated cryptocurrencies, the BitGo service must “take into account the forks of cryptocurrencies, distribution of coins and manage the wallet.” Also, service specialists should provide assistance in any technical aspects of the process of confiscating digital assets.

The search for a contractor to manage the confiscated cryptoassets USMS began in the middle of last year. Digital assets associated with criminal activities often fall into the hands of marshals. Subsequently, the Service holds auctions for the sale of these cryptocurrencies. For example, back in 2014, she sold 30,000 BTC associated with the Silk Road darknet market to investor Tim Draper.

A few days ago, it was reported that the custodian service BitGo could be bought out by Galaxy Digital under the management of Michael Novogratz.
