The Pentagon expressed concern this Tuesday (18) about the deepening relationship between Russia and North Korea. Also this Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in the Asian country for his first visit in 24 years, promising strong support.
“The deepening of cooperation between Russia and the DPRK is something that should be of concern, especially to anyone interested in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula,” said Major General Patrick Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman, to reporters.
DPRK is an abbreviation of North Korea’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
NATO also raises concern
At a press conference this Tuesday, Jens Stoltenberg, secretary general of NATO, the Western military alliance, pointed out that the organization is concerned about the support that Russia could provide to North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
“Of course, we are also concerned about the possible support that Russia provides to North Korea when it comes to supporting its missile and nuclear programs,” Stoltenberg warned.
The secretary’s statement took place alongside US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
