Sugar Loaf and the cable car. The Red Beach. The famous casino building where Carmen Miranda shone. Bar Urca and the wall to drink in front of Baía de Guanabara. The apartment where King Roberto Carlos lives. so is the Urca a privileged corner of Rio de Janeiro’s geography.
The neighborhood where many tourists circulate gained another attraction at the end of last year. It’s about the casurca bar-restaurant housed in a listed corner house from 1945, which was once the headquarters of Tamoio radio.
One of the charms of the address, very popular at the weekend, is the balcony, decorated with beautiful hand-painted Portuguese tiles.

Behind the undertaking is the chef from Rio de Janeiro Pedro Mattos one of the founders of Encarnado Burger (of which he is no longer a partner), in Rio, and one of the owners of the Italian Pappagallo Cucina, opened in 2021 in São Paulo.
Between rounds of draft beer (Brahma) and drinks, there are good suggestions for snacks, such as the shredded oxtail pastry (R$15) — big, tasty and well-stuffed. Also interesting is the friend bean broth (R$ 22), with black beans, paio and pepperoni sausage, topped with cabbage foam.

Brazilian cuisine also guides the orders for main dishes, all well served, even possible to share. On the day of the visit, the highlight was the baião de dois with smoked coalho cheese foam (R$69).
There is also octopus rice with aïoli and onion chips (R$79), fish of the day and shrimp moqueca (R$159, for two), with white rice and palm oil farofa, and its vegetarian version, prepared with banana and heart of palm (R$ 59).

If you go with a gringo friend, don’t miss out at the end, to sweeten, the very Brazilian brigadeiro with spoon with farofinha de pé-de-moleque (R$ 15).
