About to complete a year, next Friday (24), the war between Russia and Ukraine still seems to be far from a peace agreement, in the view of international relations professor at ESPM Denilde Holzahacker.
“To have a negotiation, the two parties would have to at least agree on some points, and we don’t see that movement happening,” she said in an interview with CNN on the night of this Tuesday (21).
“There is an expectation that the trip of the Chinese foreign minister to Russia could be a sign of creating a group to negotiate peace, but there is a lot of distrust on both sides, a lot of conflicting information, and this makes it difficult to forward it to the negotiation. So it’s unlikely to see that in the short term.”
This Tuesday, both Russian President Vladimir Putin and American President Joe Biden made forceful and aggressive speeches in defense of their sides in the conflict, which, in Denilde’s view, reinforces the “expectation that, at the front, it will continue on these climbs on both sides”.
