Actor Reynaldo Gianecchini believes that speaking openly – and understanding – sexuality is a process that involves self-knowledge and maturity.
He premieres the play “A Herança”, in São Paulo, this Thursday (9), and brings the discussion about love and belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community.
“I always wanted to know my aspects, to know who I am, life goes by so fast, why am I going to live without looking at so much of my real self?”, he explained to the CNN Radio on CNN No Plural.
Gianecchini says that there comes a time when enough is enough and “I want to be who I am, without negotiation.”
He reinforces, however, that everyone has their own time, and it is a process that requires courage: “It requires that we commit, you cannot demand that the person come out of the closet, it is an individual process and depends on each one.”
The actor believes that the play served to “open his mind”: “I have looked openly at my sexuality, I never went to gay clubs, bars, I was distant despite moving well between everything in life.”
“I opened my eyes to try to understand who the people in the community are, why they needed to get together and why it is important to look and understand, without judgments.”
Gianecchini highlighted that he is very happy to do the play, which originated on Broadway, and was very successful, with four Tony awards.
Although it brings the theme of the LGBT community, “the play is not about that, it is about humanity, all human issues: love, pain, acceptance, madness, difficulties, A Herança says what the conversation between generations leaves for another. ”
Bruno Fagundes also stars in the show, which is divided into two parts, with performances on different days.
“It’s a theatrical adventure, one of the most daring things I’ve done in my career, it’s really an ambitious piece in every sense, there are 89 scenes, ‘in installments’, the experience is diluted, almost as if you were marathoning a series”, said Bruno, to CNN Radio.
The actor believes that “if the play manages to touch one person in the audience for me, it was worth it, we brought the same enthusiasm and the same emotion, and it inspired me to talk about any subject openly.”
