Understand the relationship between “1984”, cited by Vanessa Lopes, and the BBB

Confined to BBB24, Vanessa Lopes has already mentioned a few times that the book “1984”, a literary classic, written by the British George Orwell, inspired the famous reality show. However, the reality is the opposite.

In one of the most recent situations, the influencer, who was talking to Luigi and MC Bin Laden, said that she remembered the work when she looked at one of the walls of the house. The scene even quickly went viral on social media.

This Thursday afternoon (18), she assured, once again, while talking to Wanessa Camargo and Yasmin Brunet, that the book was entered based on the dispute. “I read the book, you read the same book as me, 1900 and not what. It’s inspired by this show, Big Brother, the all-seeing eye,” she confirmed.

After all, what is the relationship between “1984” and Big Brother Brasil?

First of all, it is important to highlight that “1984” was released in 1949. At the time, television had not yet arrived in Brazil. Therefore, Vanessa Lopes' theory in the competition is no longer confirmed.

In fact, the first broadcast in the country only took place in 1950, with TV Tupi. The first edition of the famous reality show “Big Brother” appeared in the Netherlands in 1999 and soon spread to other countries such as Germany, Belgium, Denmark, the United States and Brazil.

Returning to the book, in Orwell's dystopian novel, the character of Big Brother is a dictator and supreme leader who controls the entire population of the fictional Oceania.

There, all public and private spaces are monitored by a camera that records and spies on the entire intimacy of this society – basically as happens in the Big Brother Brasil house, located at Estúdios Globo, in Rio de Janeiro.

In this way, residents could not challenge the system created by the totalitarian regime. Guided by the slogan “Big Brother is watching you”, the book features Winston Smith as the protagonist – a government official who falsifies historical records as a way of manipulating people.

After learning about Big Brother's methods and desires for oppression, Smith decides to challenge the authorities in search of a revolt.
