UN Secretary-General condemns violence in Ecuador

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the “criminal acts of violence” in Ecuador in a statement released this Wednesday (10).

Guterres also spoke by phone with Ecuador's permanent representative to the UN on Wednesday, according to the statement, which indicated that he “is very concerned about the deteriorating situation in the country, as well as its disruptive impact on the lives of Ecuadorians.”

“The Secretary General strongly condemns these criminal acts of violence and sends a message of solidarity to the Ecuadorian people”, adds the text.

The UN expects the Government of Ecuador to face the serious challenges through “measures aimed at protecting and minimizing the difficulties of the population, defending democratic institutions, human rights and international law”.
