UN report shows that Brazil returned to the Hunger Map in 2021

A report by the UN (United Nations) released last week shows that the number of Brazilians in a situation of severe or moderate food insecurity reaches almost a third of the population.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, Muriel Porfiro talks about Brazil’s numbers in this survey in 2021, which put the country back on the UN Hunger Map, in addition to the increase in inflation linked to high food prices, which exacerbates this situation.

Daniel Balaban, representative in Brazil of the UN World Food Program and director of the Center of Excellence against Hunger, and Sérgio Vale, specialist CNN l in economics.

The same UN study revealed that approximately 350 million people around the world suffered from the same problem during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The situation is worsened by the global inflationary process and in this regard Brazil is above average: the rise in prices in 12 months accumulated 11.8% until June, according to the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), among the G20 countries, Brazilian inflation lags behind Turkey, Argentina and Russia.

The report sought out the federal government to talk about the country’s return to the Mapa da Fome, but Secom (Secretariat of Communication) and the Ministry of Social Development did not respond to the podcast.
