Ukraine’s 57th Mechanized Infantry Brigade completely destroyed an armed group belonging to the Russian private military company Wagner, the General Staff of Ukraine said in a Facebook post on July 19.
Some of Wagner’s mercenaries wore badges with the slogan “Death is our trade and business is good.”
“This bloody operation of the enemy mercenaries has collapsed today,” the message said.
“Once again, we remind unwanted visitors that they will find only death in Ukraine. Those seeking to make easy money can only hope that they will become one with the fertile soil of Ukraine,” the statement said.
British military intelligence had earlier reported that the Wagner group had suffered heavy losses in the war and was trying to bolster its ranks by reducing conscription requirements. Moscow has used the mercenary group to fill gaps in its shrinking forces in Ukraine.
Wagner mercenaries reportedly took part in the occupation of Popashna and Lysihansk settlements in Luhansk Oblast.
