Based on what was reported by the Reuters agency, the decision may be announced within the weekat a time when Ukraine has asked its Western partners to send it anti-aircraft defense systemsincluding Patriot missiles, to protect itself from heavy Russian bombardment.
Two of the officials, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said the announcement could come as early as Thursday. The official approval of US President Joe Biden is expected and his Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has warned NATO not to supply Ukraine with Patriot systems, and Moscow is likely to see the move as an escalation.
