Ukraine war: Kherson withdrawal is yet another humiliation for Moscow, says London

Britain said Russia’s withdrawal from Ukraine’s only regional capital it has seized since the start of the Russian invasion in February is another humiliation for its military, but Moscow remains a threat.

“The Russian announcement of withdrawal from Kherson marks another strategic failure for them,” British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said in a statement today.

“In February, Russia failed to realize any of its serious objectives beyond the Kherson, and now with its surrender, ordinary Russians will have to ask themselves why this was all done”? Wallace said.

Friday’s Russian withdrawal marked the third largest Russian withdrawal of the war and the first involving the abandonment of such a major city.

According to Wallace, the Russian military has suffered a great loss in human life and the opposite of international isolation and humiliation, while Ukraine will press on with the support of Britain and the international community.

“While the withdrawal is welcome, no one will underestimate the continuing threat from the Russian Federation,” he concluded.
