Ukraine war: $2,700 a month allowance for frontline soldiers

The Ukrainians soldiers who are developed on the foreheads will receive an additional 100,000 hryvnias ($2,710) per month, the Ukrainian military leadership announced yesterday, Wednesday (19/4).

Every soldier “serving the country and protecting it from the invader, risking his life and health and performing duties in extremely difficult conditions must be highly motivated,” according to a statement from the general staff in Kyiv.

The 100,000 hryvnia allowance will be given only to “defenders fighting on the front lines”. The troops serving in war zones but not participating in combat, such as air defense soldiers, will receive an allowance of 30,000 hryvnias. Those in the rear will not receive the benefits provided for those in the front.

The basic salary for all soldiers was increased to almost 20,000 hryvnias in early February. According to the general staff, they receive a “fair” salary, which does not create “causes of social tensions” and reflects “respect” for “soldiers who risk their lives and health”.

The Ukrainian general staff called on Ukrainians not to be swayed by “populism” on this issue and to focus on the defense of the country.

On the other hand, for them Russians servicemen deployed to the front line are provided with an allowance of up to 158,000 rubles ($1,934) on top of the basic salary of 37,000, according to official data. However, soldiers are complaining through social networking sites that these allowances are not being given to them.

The US is sending a new military aid package

The US government, meanwhile, announced the sending of new military aid to Ukraine, worth 325 million euros.

The package mainly includes ammunition for HIMARS self-propelled multiple rocket launchers and other artillery items, US presidential spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre told reporters.

According to the spokeswoman of the White House, these items will be drawn from the stocks of the American armed forces.

This is the thirty-sixth aid package announced by Washington after the Russian military invaded Ukrainian territory in February 2022. With this, the amount that the US has allocated exceeds $35.4 billion.

In addition to ammunition for the HIMARS and artillery, TOW missiles, anti-tank mines, port security equipment and 9 million rounds will be sent, a State Department spokesman said.
