Ukraine: Volume of humanitarian aid decreases, according to health official

The volume of humanitarian aid arriving in Ukraine is beginning to decline, even as Russian bombing continues, Ukrainian Deputy Health Minister Oleksii Iaremenko said on Sunday.

Speaking at a warehouse near Warsaw Chopin Airport during the delivery of medical equipment facilitated by the charity Direct Relief, Iaremenko said he was grateful to the international community for the relief it has provided so far.

The cargo destined for Ukraine ranged from metal beds and gauze to asthma inhalers and oxygen concentrators. But more support is desperately needed, Iaremenko added, calling on other organizations to help.

“Over the last week we have seen that the level of humanitarian aid has been slightly reduced. We hope there will be some pause to find new resources and because Russian aggression is growing and they are bombing civilians,” he told Reuters.

“What we are asking for, if you can support, please support right now,” he said. “Do not wait weeks and months, because we need support right now.”

The conflict in Ukraine has caused a humanitarian crisis and displaced about 10 million people, almost a quarter of the country’s population, according to the United Nations.
