Ukraine’s Air Force said on Monday (9) that it shot down six of eight drones launched by Russia and two of three missiles during a nighttime strike in four Ukrainian regions.
Kiev authorities said the attack on the city, the fifth in September, caused no damage or injuries in the capital.
Russia has launched hundreds of missiles and drones to attack Ukraine in recent weeks, prompting Kiev to reiterate to its Western allies the urgent need for air defense and long-range strike capabilities to repel the attacks.
On Monday, air defenses showered aerial targets in the Kiev region with debris, causing two fires in open areas that have now been extinguished, regional authorities said.
Serhiy Lysak, governor of the central Dnipropetrovsk region, said air defenses shot down two missiles there, as well as a reconnaissance drone.
Russian shelling in the town of Nikopol in this region wounded three people and killed a 16-year-old girl, Lysak said.
The governor of the central Cherkasy region said air defense destroyed a drone and the debris caused a fire that has now been put out.
The Energy Ministry said Russian forces also attacked energy facilities in seven regions in 24 hours. The statement did not detail the scale of the damage to the facilities.
