Ukraine says 4,000 people evacuated from frontline cities

Ukraine managed to evacuate more than 4,000 people from frontline cities on Monday through seven humanitarian corridors, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said in a video statement.

Vereshchuk revealed that three other humanitarian corridors did not work successfully and accused Russian forces of firing on civilians who were evacuating in the Kiev region.

Russia has repeatedly denied firing at civilians.

The fourth round of talks with Russia was put on hold until Tuesday for a “technical break”, according to Ukrainian presidential adviser and negotiator Mykhailo Podolyak.

“A technical pause was made between negotiations until tomorrow. For further work in sub-working groups and clarification of individual definitions. Negotiations continue…”, wrote Podolyak, who had previously published a photo of the meeting, held virtually this time.

“Parties actively express their specified positions. Communication is taking place, but it is difficult. The reason for the discord is very different political systems,” he previously wrote.
