Ukraine – Russia, who is Patriarch Kirill, who is very loyal to Putin

As the war between Ukraine and Russia intensifies, the patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church (which claims Ukraine as its “canonical territory”), has not spent a single word against the attackers. Indeed, obeying Russian censorship, he speaks as if there was no war in Ukraine: in his first public statement after the Russian attack, he spoke of “profound empathy with all those affected by this tragedyJust as if the Ukrainians were victims of a natural disaster.

Kirill, a loyalist of Putin, has for years supported the allegations of a conspiracy against the Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine, after the granting of autocephaly (independence) to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Istanbul. And his Church’s systematic propaganda campaign on Ukraine was also used by Putin to justify the Ukrainian invasion: in his February 21 speech on the recognition of the “people’s republics” of Donetsk and Luhansk, the Russian president parrot repeated the propaganda of the Moscow Patriarchate: “Kiev continues to perpetrate the destruction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Patriarchate of Moscow “.

For his part, Kirill made his own the affirmation that Putin places at the basis of his war: the denial of the existence of a Ukrainian people distinct from the Russian one. The patriarch emphasized this idea when Russia bombed Ukrainian civilian homes and hospitals.

Kirill, perfectly in line with Putin’s war rhetoric, reiterated that the conflict, in reality, is fought between the mythical people of Rus united (a medieval entity from which both the Russians and the Ukrainians would descend) and the “external enemies”. The latter would try to impose a “gay parade” on the residents of Donbass. The war is right, according to him, because it is fought against gay lobbies.

“If humanity recognizes that sin is not a violation of God’s law,” he said during the Sunday Sermon of Forgiveness, “if humanity agrees that sin is one of the options for human behavior, then human civilization will end there ”. And the “gay parades” “are designed to demonstrate that sin is one of the variations of human behavior.”

AND “to enter the club of those countries it is necessary to organize a gay pride parade. And we know how people resist these demands and how this resistance is repressed by force. This means that it is a question of imposing by force a sin condemned by the law of God, and therefore, of imposing by force on people the denial of God and of his truth ”.
