The head of Ukrainian national security, Oleksiy Danilov, hinted in an interview with CNN about the possibility of Ukraine attacking Russia on its own territory, not just the Ukrainian-occupied area.
“As for Russian territory, no one forbids us to destroy targets with Ukrainian-made weapons. Do we have these weapons? Yes, we do,” said Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, this Monday (7).
Western countries have restricted Ukraine’s ability to attack Russian territory with weapons donated by the West. Although unexplained explosions consistently occurred at strategic locations in Russia during the war, Ukraine never publicly admitted responsibility for the attacks.
Major General Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Agency, last month predicted “deeper and deeper” attacks inside Russia, away from the front lines, without acknowledging any Ukrainian role.
Budanov told ABC News in January that he was “very happy to see” the attacks inside Russia but could not “give [uma] response” until after the war about whether Ukraine played a role in these attacks.
“Do you think there will be more?” the journalist asked Budanov. “I think so,” he replied.
“Inside Russia?” asked the journalist. “More and more,” he replied.
