Ukraine and the United States signed on Thursday (17) a memorandum as the first step towards the realization of an agreement for the development of minerals in Ukraine, said Yulia Svyrydenko, the first vice-minister and Minister of Economics of Ukraine.
“We are happy to announce the signature, with our American partners, of a memo of intent, which paves the way for an economic partnership agreement and the creation of the Investment Fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine,” Svyrydenko wrote on the X social platform.
US President Donald Trump seeks a bilateral mineral agreement as part of an effort to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The US government also sees this as a way to recover billions of dollars spending on military assistance to Kiev, although aid was not a loan.
In early March, the Ukrainian government said that “everything was ready” and that the agreement would be signed when Americans considered it convenient.
