Ukraine and Japan sign 10-year security agreement

Ukraine and Japan signed a 10-year agreement on security issues on the sidelines of the G7 summit, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. Ukraine, more than two years after the start of the Russian invasion, has signed 15 similar agreements securing long-term support from its allies, including Britain, France and Germany. Security and Humanitarian Aid in the Agreement “In 2024, Japan will provide Ukraine with $4.5 billion and will continue to support us throughout the ten-year term of the agreement,” Zelensky told X. The agreement, he added, provides for security and defense assistance, humanitarian aid, technical and economic cooperation. Zelensky thanked Japan for its “unwavering solidarity” and dedication to protecting international law. A similar agreement with the US is expected to be signed later at the G7 summit in Italy.
