Uber scandal: Mark McGann revealed he was behind leaking thousands of documents to the Guardian

Lobbyist Mark McGann revealed to the Guardian that he was the whistleblower on Uber’s practices and he who was behind the leak of thousands of internal documents of the American company in the British newspaper.

McGann, who between 2014 and 2016 led the efforts for the expansion of the company – which operates in the field of transport services – in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, said he decided to speak out because he believes Uber has broken laws in dozens of countries and deceived people about the profits of the business model, as reported by the Guardian.

The British newspaper secured and shared with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and its 42 media partners approximately 124,000 documents dating from 2013 to 2017, including SMS and emails from Uber executives, as well as presentations, notes and invoices.

Some of her practices are presented in them Uber during the years of rapid expansion of the company, but also during a period when it was at the center of many controversies mainly with taxi companies in various cities of the world, from Paris to Johannesburg.

According to the Guardian and as relayed by the Athens News Agency, Uber adopted similar tactics in various European countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy…), mobilizing its drivers and pushing them to complain to the police when they were victims of attacks, with the aim the company to take advantage of the media coverage to extract concessions from the authorities.
