Two women are rescued after a house collapses in the north of Rio

Two women were rescued alive when a house collapsed in Del Castilho, in the north of Rio de Janeiro.

Dirlei Simões Silva and Yane Vilela were taken to the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital and, according to the State Health Department, have already been discharged.

Firefighters from four groups participated in the rescue. They used sniffer dogs to check for more victims under the rubble. In addition to the women, three dogs were also rescued. The collapse happened on the night of this Wednesday (8).

The Municipal Civil Defense was triggered after the accident. The engineers found structural collapse of the pillars on the first floor. In all, 14 closures were carried out at the site, 11 of them preventive.

The Social Assistance Secretariat was activated to assist the families. The Conservation Secretariat will be responsible for the demolition of three residences, which have been definitively banned.

Rains in Rio de Janeiro

According to Civil Defense, the collapse was not caused by rain. However, since last Tuesday (7), six people have died as a result of the rain in the state of Rio.

According to the latest update made by the Fire Department, around 370 occurrences related to rain in the state have already been attended to. There were 115 floods and floods, 85 rescues of trapped or stranded people, 118 tree cuttings and 50 landslides and landslides.
