There are two dead French volunteers who were killed yesterday Thursday (1/2) in a Russian bombardment in the community of Barislav, near Kherson, in the south Ukraineas announced by a Ukrainian official.
“Foreign volunteers were killed and injured due to an enemy strike in Barislav,” Kherson regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said via Telegram.
“The Russian army killed two French citizens. Three other foreigners were slightly injured,” as well as a person with Ukrainian citizenship, he added, without specifying what the tasks of the “volunteers” were. He expressed his “sincere condolences to the families” of the dead.
The Ukrainian police, for its part, spoke of two men with French citizenship who died in a drone attack, adding that three other men and a woman were injured. He added via Telegram that he is conducting an investigation into a violation of the law of war.
“All the victims had gone to the Kherson district as volunteers,” noted as reported by the Athens News Agency citing AFP.
The French foreign ministry did not immediately respond when AFP sought comment in the early hours of the morning.
Barislav, with about 12,000 inhabitants before the war, is located on the north bank of the Dnieper River, not far from the front line. On October 27, it was announced that one person was killed there due to an explosive being dropped by a Russian drone.
