The first shipment of Ukrainian grain cargo authorized since the start of the war on February 24 arrived tonight off Istanbul in the Black Sea, according to an AFP team.
The Sierra Leone-flagged cargo ship Razoni, which left Odessa in southern Ukraine on Monday morning with 26,000 tonnes of maize bound for Lebanon, is expected to spend the night off its coast Turkey and will be inspected tomorrow morning by an international team at the entrance to the Bosphorus, the Turkish Ministry of Defense clarified.
This is the first export allowed under the agreement signed on July 22 in Istanbul between Ukrainian and Russia, with the mediation of Turkey and under the auspices of the United Nations, in order to lift the blockade of Ukrainian ports and to provide relief in agricultural markets.
According to the AFP photographer and cameraman on the beach, the 186 meter long ship arrived off the coast shortly before 19.00 local time (and Greek time).
According to the Ministry of Defense, the ship was expected “at the entrance of the Bosphorus around 21.00”.
The inspection, requested by Moscow which wants to ascertain the nature of the cargo, will be carried out by a delegation consisting of representatives of Turkey, Ukraine, Russia and the UN. Afterwards, the Razoni will continue its course, Turkish Admiral Ozkan Altunbulak, head of the Joint Coordination Center overseeing the operations, told reporters.
