For those who don’t have a home, even the small gestures that ensure daily hygiene become a complex challenge. And it is to help the poorest people, and in particular those without a fixed abode, that since yesterday, in Turin, two new «Pope Francis Laundries»an initiative proposed by Procter & Gamble and implemented with the Community of Sant’Egidio and the collaboration of Haier Europe.
They are located one inside the parish of San Giorgio Martirein via Barrili 12, and one in the historic center area, in the House of Friendshipin the La Sosta center, in via Giolitti 40. They are stocked with laundry detergents and household cleaning or personal hygiene products such as shampoos, razors and shaving foams, and are equipped with washing machines and dryers donated by Haier Europe. Both of Pope Francis’ laundries will be managed by the Community of Sant’Egidio of Turin: they are a service offered free of charge. You will be able to wash and dry clothes and blankets, but also take care of personal cleaningin the shower rooms.
«We are very grateful for this opportunity», says Daniela Sironi, president of the Community of Sant’Egidio Piemonte. «For the poor it will be like the Pope’s caress which comes in a time of great difficulty. The scent of clean laundry is the scent of homea family scent and it is a note of affection and warmth that we all need.”
Other laundries of Pope Francis have already been opened in Rome in 2017 and in Genoa in 2019, thanks to the collaboration of Procter & Gamble and the Apostolic Charity, which began in 2015, when the barbershop for the poor of the Colonnade of San Pietro desired by the Holy Father.
