United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday to encourage the US government and consumers to buy plastic straws.
“We are returning to the plastic straws,” Trump told the Oval Hall reporters by signing the order.
“I don’t think plastic will greatly affect a shark while he is eating while chewing his way through the ocean,” said Trump.
In 2022, the Interior Department began to implement a plan to gradually eliminate disposable plastics in public lands by 2032, part of a broader effort from Joe Biden’s government to eliminate disposable plastics in all government operations federal until 2035, as previously reported by the CNN .
Trump and other Republicans have used paper straws as a symbol in their opposition to environmental policies supported by Democrats.
