Trump signs a measure for government agencies to leave Washington

President Donald Trump signed on Tuesday (15) a decree that paves the way for government agencies to revoke his offices outside Washington, DC.

The order, which is the government’s latest step to reformulate the Federal Administration, revokes two orders from former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, who encouraged the location of government facilities in business areas and historical properties and districts.

“Revaging these orders will restore common sense in the management of federal office spaces, allowing agencies to choose more economical facilities and successfully focus their missions for US taxpayers,” says Trump’s new executive order.

“The American people are spread for almost 10 million square kilometers, in urban, suburban and rural areas. To provide the highest quality services efficiently and economically, executive departments and agencies must be where the people are,” says the text.

There are about 2.4 million federal workers in the United States, excluding employees for military service and post office, and 17% of them live in the DC metropolitan area, according to government data.
