Trump says he argued that “we have to be good with Gaza” to Netanyahu

United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that he told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who “we need to be good with Gaza,” while Netanyahu continues to block humanitarian aid entry into the war devastated by war.

In answering questions from reporters on the way to the Vatican to Pope Francis’ funeral, the US president was asked if the aid theme Gaza had been mentioned during his recent conversation with Netanyahu.

“Gaza came up,” replied Trump. “And I said, ‘We need to be good with Gaza’ because people are – these people are suffering.”

Trump added: “There is a very large need for medicines, food and medicines. We are taking care of it.”

Earlier last month, Israel, in an effort to press Hamas to accept new terms to extend the ceasefire agreement, imposed a blockade to enter humanitarian aid in Gaza, cutting food supply, medical supplies and other aids to more than 2 million Palestinians.

Trump, since taking office, has expressed his desire for the US to take control of Gaza.

Earlier this month, Trump – in comments at the White House alongside Netanyahu – called the Palestinian enclave “an incredible piece of important ownership.”
