President Donald Trump said he thinks Iran is “curling” in nuclear weapons negotiations after the first round of discussion was completed this weekend in Oman.
“We had a meeting with them on Saturday (12). We have another meeting scheduled for next Saturday (19). I said, ‘This is a long time.’ You know, it’s a long time. So I think they may be curling us, ”Trump said in the Oval Hall alongside President Nayib Bukele.
He said Iran “needs to get rid of the concept of a nuclear weapon. They can’t have a nuclear weapon.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araye told state media after Saturday’s meeting that the two parts “came very close” to reach a structure for negotiations.
Trump threatened military attacks as a result of a failure, and Tehran warned that any attack on the country would drag the US to a larger conflict in the Middle East.
“I think they are curling us because they were so used to dealing with stupid people in this country,” Trump said about the schedule proposed by Iran for negotiations.
He reiterated that negotiations “need to go fast” because Iran is “very close to having” a nuclear weapon. “And if we have to do something very severe, we will do,” said the president.
