Trump government evaluates as “very good” progress in negotiations with Iran

The Trump government expressed optimism with the second round of high -level negotiations on the nuclear agreement with Iranian authorities in Rome on Saturday (19). The assessment was that the conversations had a “very good progress”.

“For over four hours in our second round of negotiations, we have made very good progress in our direct and indirect discussions,” a high US government official told CNN.

“We agreed to meet again next week and we are grateful to our partners of Oman for facilitating these negotiations and our Italian partners for welcoming us today,” the official added.

The negotiations were led by the American side by the Special Presidential Steve Witkoff, who also participated in last week’s discussions in Oman, in the Middle East. The country’s Foreign Minister Arabic acted as a mediator, essentially forwarding messages between the two sides during the negotiation course.

A third round of discussion is expected in Oman next Saturday. Conversations between technical experts on both sides will begin on Wednesday, according to a spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Resumption of conversations about agreement

United States and Iran have decades of animosity and have long argued about Iran’s nuclear abilities. US President Donald Trump insists on closing a new nuclear agreement in a matter of weeks. The American goal is to prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb.

The Trump government issued some contradictory messages before negotiations on the exact amount of uranium that would agree to allow Iran to enrich.

The American representative finally tried to clarify in a statement: “Iran must interrupt and eliminate its nuclear enrichment and weaponry program,” said Steve Witkoff.
