Trump: Determined to continue campaigning even if convicted

The former US president Donald Trumpwho is seeking a new presidential term despite the federal prosecution, said today that even if he is convicted he will not stop campaigning in his battle for the November 2024 presidential election. Facing prosecution and investigations into numerous court cases, the 77-year-old tycoon, who is presented as the favorite for the Republican nomination about the presidential election, he was asked in an interview he gave about the charges against him, the day after new charges were announced against him in the classified documents case.

When asked by far-right radio host John Fredericks if he would end his campaign if convicted, Trump replied “in no way». “It is not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution that such a thing could (prevent me)” from campaigning, he said, according to the Athens News Agency. “Even the scoundrels of the radical left say that it won’t stop me,” he stressed. “These people are sick. What they are doing is absolutely appalling.”he said.

The former president claimed that former US presidents such as Barack Obama and George W. Bush “obtained documents,” falsely suggesting that his predecessors behaved in the manner for which he is now being prosecuted.

“I’m not even sure what they’re talking about”

On Thursday, federal prosecutors increased the charges against him in the pending case against him for maintaining classified documents for which he has been prosecuted, accusing him of trying to destroy surveillance footage of interest to researchers.

In his interview he responded to these new charges by saying: “This was security camera footage. We delivered it to them… I’m not even sure what they’re talking about.”

Trump’s lawyers were told yesterday that the former US president will be charged in the federal investigation into trying to sway the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

On July 18, Trump announced that he had received a letter from Jack Smith informing him that he was personally the target of a federal investigation into efforts to sway the outcome of the November 2020 election and specifically the attack on the federal Capitol on January 6 2021.

The new prosecution will be added to the one over the classified documents and the one – in New York state – for paying a porn star to ensure her silence.

Also, a prosecutor in Georgia is expected to announce by September the findings of her own investigation into the pressure exerted to change the outcome of the 2020 election in this southern American state.
