The rain will extend hundreds of kilometers from the center of the storm and will be accompanied by strong gusts of wind. Impacted areas could also experience dangerous storm surge and coastal flooding, strong rip currents and rough waves.

The storm will likely be named Ophelia, but it could also be nicknamed Philippe, depending on when it is named.
A tropical storm warning extends from Cape Fear, North Carolina, to the Maryland-Delaware state line. Parts of that coast are also under storm surge warnings, with waves of 1 to 5 feet possible in coastal areas from Pamlico South to Delaware Bay.
Coastal areas will also bear the brunt of the heaviest rain, although inland residents will also experience storm surge.
