Transnistria: Russian troops on full alert – accusations from Russia and Ukraine on both sides

Units of Russian troops have been put on full alert in Transnistria in Moldova.

According to a post on Facebook by the General Staff of Ukraine: “Units of an operational group of Russian troops have been put on full alert and the Russian security forces have changed to an enhanced mode of service in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.”

Propaganda games

Ukrainian intelligence services warn of new provocation by Russian special services in unrecognized Transnistria. According to Ukrainian Pravda, residents of unrecognized Transnistria receive text messages from a source claiming to be the Ukrainian Armed Forces and special services of Ukraine.

These messages contain a warning of a “missile and artillery” strike on the territory of the “Transnistrian region”.

Excerpt from the fake message: “The Security Service of Ukraine strongly recommends the evacuation of civilians to safer areas. We assure you that the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not want harm to happen to civilians, but those who remain in the cities will be considered “They will be eliminated without warning. Rocket and artillery bombardment on the territory of the republic will take place at exactly 19.00”.

The Ukrainian intelligence service says the allegations are being covered by Russian propaganda. “We emphasize that the Ukrainian state has nothing to do with this and similar provocations. “This is another challenge for the Russian special services against Ukraine and Moldova.”

Both sides “show” from both sides as to the person in charge

The head of Moldova’s breakaway region of Transnistria said the attacks on the territory could be traced to Ukraine, the TASS news agency reported on Tuesday. “Traces of these attacks are leading to Ukraine,” TASS quoted Vadim Krasnoselsky, the self-proclaimed president of the breakaway region, as saying. “I guess those who organized this attack intend to drag Transnistria into the conflict.”

The blasts appear to be part of an attempt by Russian intelligence to build a foreign operation, the former Moldovan defense minister told Business Insider. Vitali Marinuta, who served as Moldova’s defense minister from 2009 to 2014, said it made no sense for either Moldovan or Transnistrian forces to carry out or organize the attacks. Neither Moldova nor Transnistria have any incentive to rekindle a frozen conflict, and Ukraine would have no interest in opening another possible front. “All we have left is the Russian Federation,” Marinuta said. “Having studied how Russia or its military intelligence service works, it seems to be their job.”

Moldova held an emergency today meeting of its national security council and the Kremlin has expressed serious concern following two bombings in the Moscow-backed Transnistrian region.

On April 25, a series of explosions heard in the capital of the unrecognized Republic of Transnistria of Moldova (TMR). Ukrainian intelligence reports that a few days ago, the unrecognized Transnistria began preparing for “explosions” organized by the FSB [Ρωσική Ομοσπονδιακή Υπηρεσία Ασφαλείας] as an excuse for the war with Ukraine or with the intention of involving the Transnistrian region in hostilities in the war against Ukraine.

Later, the so-called Transnistrian Interior Ministry reported that on the morning of April 26 in the village of Mayak in the Grigoropolis region, two explosions were heard: the first at 6:40, the second at 7:05. A third explosion was reported shortly afterwards.

The blasts were followed by queues of civilian cars trying to leave Transnistria for the Moldovan-controlled area. The area has entered a state of “red alert for a terrorist threat”.
