Tragedy in Tunisia: 11 corpses of migrants in advanced decay

Confronted with a hideous sight came the officers of its coast guard Tunisia which identified the corpses eleven migrants in advanced decomposition off the Mahdia district in the central-eastern part of the country.

Alongside Tunisian authorities dismantled four migrant smuggling rings who were operating on a new migration route that passes through Turkey and Serbia, Jembali pointed out.

From spring to autumn, when the weather conditions are favorable, attempts by migrants to leave Tunisia and neighboring Libya for Italy increase.

The Tunisian authorities complain that it is difficult to prevent these departures or to rescue the migrants who are shipwrecked because, as they point out, they do not have the necessary means.

Nearly 200 migrants, most of them Tunisian, were spotted at sea on Saturday and Sunday as they tried to reach Europe by crossing the Mediterranean, according to the Tunisian defense ministry.

Since the beginning of the year more than 22,500 Immigrants have been spotted off the coast of Tunisia, of which nearly 11,000 were from sub-Saharan Africa, according to official figures.

Frontex reported that more than 42,500 migrants took the central Mediterranean route between January and July, a 44% increase compared to the same period in 2021.
