A man's attempt at Russia to descend a 24-storey apartment building in Chelyabinsk pretending to be Santa Claus, as the rope slipped from his hands and he fell several meters to his death.
He was dressed in a red robe to look like “Grandpa Peacock”, the Russian version of him Santa Claus who brings gifts to good children.
According to New York Postthe even more tragic thing was that his wife and child were at the scene and saw the death of their loved one.
Onlookers initially believed the fall was part of a stunt and they waited for him to rise and greet their children.
“My son didn't understand anything” a witness said. “The others realized what happened and ran away like crazy. Of course, all parents are in a state of shock.”
Another bystander assumed that a doll had fallen into the void and that the man was playing a prank. “The events continued”he stated and added that at first there was no suspicion that it was a tragedy.
Event organizers said it was a 'monstrous accident'while and the company that had organized the event spoke of a “traumatic spectacle”. The authorities are investigating the case.
