His police Los Angeles killed a 14-year-old girl in the dressing room of a clothing store, during shots against a suspect in the North Hollywood area when one of the bullets penetrated the dressing room wall.
The tragic incident happened on Thursday morning (23/12) in a store in Burlington in the area of North Hollywood in the San Fernando Valley, the police announced, according to the Guardian.
Witnesses said a man threatened to throw objects upstairs and attacked a woman with a bicycle lock at noon while the store was full of customers.
Police responded to a report of an attack and gunfire, but investigators found no weapon at the scene.
The suspect was shot and killed in the store, but one of the bullets went through a wall behind him, killing the girl. Investigators did not know if he was in the dressing room before the incident began or if he had run there to hide, he said.
“A full investigation will be carried out into the incident”
“This incident that resulted in the death of an innocent child is tragic for everyone.” said Police Chief Michelle Moore on Thursday night. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of this young girl’s life and know that there are no words that can alleviate the unimaginable pain of family.”
Moore promised a “thorough, thorough and transparent investigation” into the shooting and said a critical incident video would be released by Monday.
