Tornado or tornadoes swept Perryton, in the northeastern part of the state, yesterday Thursday Texas (southern US), killing people – it is not yet clear how many – and causing widespread damage to homes and a mobile home park, according to the mayor of the city of about 8,500, Kerry Simons, and US media.

According to local TV station KVII, at least thirty caravans were damaged or destroyed and firefighters are trying to rescue many victims. The same source said at least one person was dead and 75 injured, citing the first information provided by Perryton Fire Chief Paul Dutcher.

The city may have been hit by as many as three tornadoes, the broadcaster added.

Footage from Periton shows houses turned into piles of rubble, according to Reuters and the Athens News Agency.

A woman who answered the phone at the sheriff’s office in Ochiltree County, where the town is located, told Reuters news agency that police were not yet able to give a casualty count.

“Jane and I are praying for the people of Perryton tonight. I am in contact with Mayor Simons and this tragedy is being closely followed by me and my entire staff,” assured Republican Congressman Ronnie Jackson, who is elected in Texas.

Perryton is a relatively mixed distance from the Texas-Oklahoma border.
