Today, January 20, at 19:00 Kiev time, the inauguration ceremony of 78-year-old Joe Biden, the 46th President-elect of the United States, will take place in Washington. This is a solemn event during which power in the country passes from the current head of the White House (Donald Trump) to the one whom the American people elected in the elections last November.
The security of the event will be ensured by about 25,000 National Guardsmen.
Biden was asked people not to come to the show due to quarantine restrictions. The few who will be present in person will take rapid tests for coronavirus, after which they will go to the podium for the guests.
There will be no parade on Pennsylvania Avenue, the National Mall will be closed to the public, as will the area near the Capitol. Also canceled the civil parade from the Capitol to the White House: it was replaced by a virtual “Parade Across America”. There will be broadcasts of various performances across the United States. The White House will also host the first-ever curated inclusion for young Americans.
The one and a half hour show Celebrating America will be hosted by world-renowned actor Tom Hanks.
“Tonight in Washington DC and across the country, we will come together to honor the more than 400,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19. Last year has put us through unimaginable challenges, but now is the time to begin to heal and overcome – together.” Biden signed the photo above on his Facebook.

Sequencing
Traditionally, on the eve of his inauguration, Biden spends the night at Blair House: this is the president’s guest house next to the White House.
Official celebrations are scheduled from 11:00 to 20:30 local time; in Ukraine it is from 18:00 to 03:30 am on January 21. The ceremony will begin with the performance of the national anthem by singer Lady Gaga and a prayer.
Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn in at the West Wing of the Capitol: the first will be Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, John Roberts (at about 19:00), the second – the judge of the Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor.
Following this, Biden will deliver an inaugural speech in which he will lay out his vision of how to defeat the pandemic, accelerate recovery, unite and heal the nation.
Then he and the first lady, along with Harris (and the second gentleman), will move to the east wing of the Capitol, where the Pass in Review will take place – an old military tradition where the new president holds a ceremonial review of the US army and a peaceful transfer of power to the new commander in chief.
After that, Biden, Harris, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and their wives and spouses will visit the Arlington National Cemetery and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Biden will then receive a presidential military escort from 15th Street to the White House, which will feature all types of troops.
Trump will not be at the inauguration – he will go to watch it on TV from his resort in Florida, although traditionally the past president, along with colleagues in previous cadences, stand at the event behind the back of the new leader of the nation – this is a symbol of a peaceful transfer of power. This happens for the first time in 152 years of power transfer.
However, the festivities will be attended by Michael Pence, the US vice president who did not please Trump on the critical day of January 6.
