To CNN, Nancy Peloi recalls a meeting with Pope Francis

The Emeritus President of the House of Representatives of the United States, Nancy Pelasi, shared on Monday (21) memories she had with Pope Francis, with whom she met four times before her death.

In a CNN International Pelo, who is Catholic, praised Francisco as a “confident Pope” and said he talked about “repeatedly” immigrants and refugees, for it was “such a priority for him.”

“He’s a person, I mean, so beautiful, so kind, so happy. He laughed at so many things. And I had the great privilege of finding him at least four times,” she said.

The Pope said Pelo, loved children and she remembered to visit him with her own children and grandchildren.

She remembered the late Pope allowing her to receive the sacred sacrament of communion during an official visit to the Vatican in 2022, although her local archbishop has forbidden her to do so due to her support for abortion.

Pelo said Francisco met in particular with her and her husband, Paul, and that the Vatican released photos of them together. She was then allowed to receive communion during the Mass, which, she said, “effectively” sent a message.

Pope Francis’ death

Francisco, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, assumed the title of Pope in March 2013. He marked the history of the Catholic Church as the first Latin American Pope and the first Jesuit to occupy the position.

The pontiff died after a stroke and irreversible heart failure, Vatican doctor Andrea Arcangeli said in a death certificate released on Monday (21) of the 88-year-old pontiff.

The body was expected to be placed in a coffin on Monday. On the morning of Wednesday (23), will begin the wake of the leader of the Catholic Church, open to the faithful.

The date of the funeral, a ceremony that will precede the burial of Francis, has not yet been released.

The certificate, published by the Vatican, states that Francis went in a coma before his death on the morning of Monday.
