TikTok to create new logistics and storage network in the United States

While apparently all social media apps are copying TikTok, the social network now appears to be copying Amazon’s playbook.

The company indicates that it is looking to create a new logistics and warehousing network in the United States to support its e-commerce efforts, according to several job openings recently posted on its hiring website and LinkedIn page.

Like other social networks, TikTok has expanded into e-commerce to add revenue opportunities. The app currently offers a shopping option called TikTok Shop in select markets, including the UK and Indonesia, which allows creators and merchants to sell products through the platform. It also partnered with Shopify to enable shopping on the platform.

But with the latest job listings, which were first reported by Axios, TikTok seems to want to go even further. Rather than simply serving as a platform to reach customers, the company may be looking to provide logistical support to create what it calls “a new and better e-commerce experience.”

“By providing warehousing, delivery and customer service returns, our mission is to help sellers improve their operational capability and efficiency, provide shoppers with a satisfying shopping experience, and ensure the rapid and sustainable growth of TikTok Shop,” the company said. .

In a job posting, for example, the company says it is looking for someone to “build the new fulfillment service from the ground up” and be “responsible for the business development of the TikTok e-commerce logistics fulfillment service in the US.”

Many of the functions are posted in Seattle, which is also home to Amazon’s first corporate headquarters. Amazon’s extensive logistics and delivery network made it a central tool for multiple merchants and ensured that it could offer a wide range of products with fast deliveries.

A TikTok spokesperson declined to detail more recent information. In a statement to CNN the spokesperson said the company is “focused on providing a valuable shopping experience in countries where the TikTok Shop is currently offered in Southeast Asia and the UK, which includes providing merchants with a range of product features and options.” Of delivery”.
